Jean-Yves began his martial arts training in 1972 at 17, achieving blue belt status in Jiu Jitsu before becoming interested in Muay Thai and Kickboxing a few years later (Jean-Yves did go on to obtain his Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu in 2008).
Jean-Yves won his first kickboxing competition in 1976 after only six months of training under the direction of John Therien and subsequently became Canadian middleweight kickboxing champion two and a half years later. In 1980 he won the PKA Middleweight World title (Full-contact karate), and held the championship for a record 15 years. He has also won world titles in both the ISKA and PKC associations. He became known as the “Iceman,” a nickname given to him by Rodney Batiste during his first title defence, due to his intimidating icy stare and cool demeanour in the ring. Jean-Yves has a number of high-profile victories, including two wins against future four-time K-1 champion Ernesto Hoost and a draw against the legendary Don “The Dragon” Wilson.
He has also fought world champions such as Rob Kaman, Tosca Petridis and Rick Roufus. Jean-Yves has worked with many groups and charities, such as Big Brothers and the Children’s Wish Foundation. He is the author of a book on kickboxing techniques and has a series of videos on the science of combat sports. He is the subject of a film produced by the National Film Board and was voted Athlete of the Decade by the Sports Writers Association of New Brunswick. Since his retirement in 1995, Jean-Yves began teaching classes at various Therien Ju-Jitsu & Kickboxing schools and became a world-class promoter for the sport of kickboxing. He strives to give new, young fighters the opportunity to realize their dreams in the “Iceman Amateur Kickboxing Circuit”. In 2011, Jean-Yves and his mentor Hanshi John Therien opened their own school, Therien Ottawa South. John Therien has since retired, however Jean-Yves continues to manage and instruct at the school with his new partner Jason Lian.

Rob Kaman didn’t respect the rules of Full Contact and used his low kick to Theriault during the fight. After advertisement, J Yves Theriault can’t continue the fight because he was pain on the legs. The victory of Kaman is not acceptable

· Scott Jurgens: Kickboxing
Scott has studied Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing for the past 14 years and holds both Sandan (3rddegree black belt) in Can Ryu Jiu Jitsu and Elite level in kickboxing. He currently teaches kickboxing under the tutelage of Jean-Yves Theriault and has been doing thus since the Therien Ottawa South Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing location opened in 2011.
Previous to this, Scott taught both adult and kids Jiu Jitsu programs for many years under the guidance of Hanshi John Therien. Scott has won numerous amateur kickboxing championships and is currently helping to coach the next generation of young fighters realise their Kickboxing goals. Scott studied aerospace engineering at Carleton University and is currently employed as a supervisor in the Patent Branch of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He is happily married to a wonderful woman and has two beautiful children, a daughter 6 and a son 3. Both Scott’s wife and daughter currently train at Therien Ottawa South in the Gladiator and Little Ninja programs and his son is schedule to start soon.
· Marc-Andre Lepine: Kickboxing
At the age of 5, Marc-Andre started training in Nintai Aiki Jiu Jitsu followed by years of Tae Kwon Do instruction. For the past 9 years, Marc-Andre has been very dedicated to fitness training on a full time basis that has included kickboxing under the leadership of Jean-Yves Theriault at Therien Ottawa South. While training under Jean-Yves, Marc-Andre set his sights on sharpening his kickboxing skills and advanced quite quickly to the Elite level. While doing so, he fought on two occasions as an amateur kickboxing fighter with Iceman Productions, promoted by Jean-Yves Theriault. Marc-Andre has been teaching both the Novice and Pro-Kick levels of kickboxing at Therien Ottawa South since the location opened in 2011.
. Todd Tuttle: Jiu Jitsu
Sensei Todd Tuttle is a Third degree Black belt and is currently the lead instructor of Therien Ottawa South’s Jiu Jitsu Adult Black Belt program. He started his martial arts career at the age of 18 and studied numerous styles of martial arts ( both Chinese and Japanese) before joining Therien Jiu-Jitsu in the spring of 1994. Sensei Tuttle is also a Registered Massage Therapist and specializes in sports injuries related to Martial Arts and other extreme sports, and has been a member of the college of Massage Therapists since 2000. He is a member of the World Kobudo teaching team and has traveled throughout Canada and Europe over the past 15 years teaching Jiu-Jitsu and Sports Massage to Martial artists.
. Camille Cordick : Jiu Jitsu
Sensei Cam has always had an interest in martial arts and in the 1990’s, after watching her daughter train, began training herself in Shotokan Karate in which she achieved black belt level. In 2012 Cam received her 4th dan in Karate. Sensei Cam enjoys learning and cross training in various styles. Later in 2012 Sensei Cam joined Therien Ottawa South’s Jiu Jitsu program while still continuing with Karate. Sensei Cam is now the Therien Ottawa South Little Ninja program instructor teaching children 4-7 years of age.
· Eric Levesque: Jiu Jitsu
Eric first started with Therien Jiu Jitsu & Kickboxing in 2006. He began his training in Kickboxing under the tutelage of Jean-Yves Theriault who worked with Eric to become one of Therien’s Kickboxing instructors. While Eric was training in Kickboxing he took an interest in Jiu Jitsu and once he reached the level of Orange belt began personal instruction under Hanshi John Therien. At the rank of Brown belt, Eric transferred his training to Renshi Jean-Guy (Junior) Leduc where in 2014 he went on to receive his Black belt. In 2015 Eric reached the level of Sensei with Therien Ottawa South and continues to teach the children’s age group 7-13 year old Orange Belt Program.
. Alain Pilote: Jiu Jitsu
Alain has been a practitioner of martial arts for 35 years, and a member of the Therien schools for the past 8. Alain has obtained black belts in both Karate and Jiu Jitsu and currently trains in Taekwondo, Kung Fu and Krav Maga. Alain is also an avid kickboxer and ultra trail runner, covering distances of up to 100 kms. Alain has been teaching the Executive Jiu Jitsu Program for Therien Ottawa South for the past 3 years, during which time 4 black belts have graduated under his instruction.
. Jason Lian: Jiu Jitsu
Jason started training in Jiu-jitsu at the Therien schools in 1995. Before that he practiced Kung-fu and learned modern wing-Chun and TKD.Jason has been a personal trainer for 10 years and is a certified club professional with Tennis Canada. Jason has a keen interest in languages and music and believes all martial arts have something great to offer and that every person can benefit from training. Jason is co-owner of Therien Ottawa South with Jean-Yves Theriault, and is an assistant instructor in both the kickboxing and jiu jitsu programs.
· Greg Pollock: Gladiator
Greg has 10 years of martial arts training including traditional jiu- jitsu, brazilian jiu jitsu, kickboxing , muay thai kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Greg has been involved in the fitness world for over 30 years and started training at the age of 15 training alongside Steve Yzerman. Being a high level multi sport athlete required learning many different workout programs, Greg has also trained professional hockey players for 10 years. Gaining valuable knowledge over the years from NFL and CFL players, MLB players, Olympic Bobsled team members, Canadian team Rugby players, Jr A and NHL players as well as Olympic power lifters and competitive body builders Greg brings a vast amount of conditioning knowledge to Therien Ottawa South. Fitness has been a big part of his life. In his early years Greg worked with Dave Ablack one of North Americas best strength coaches and worked with NHLs Zenon Konopka and AHL MVP Corey Locke, both elite professional athletes with tremendous knowledge on strength and conditioning. Greg’s involvement with world renowned Jean-Yves Therieault and Hanshi John Therien taught him vast coaching skills contributing to the powerful Therien Ottawa South Gladiator Program.
